Prod. by Toobeaucoup and Balfe/ Campbell Productions.
Screenings: The anti-commercials were part of the public art project Handlefri initiated by Sara Eliassen and Lilja Ingolfsdottir. The films were screened as 'ads' in commercial TV-channels for 1.2 million people; in 80% of Norwegian movie theatres; on commercial screens in shopping malls/ train stations/ airport trains throughout Norway during one week in 2007. The films also screened at the Haugesund Int. Film Festival (2007) and The Norwegian Short Film Festival (2006).

My work is a conceptual cinematic practice investigating how moving images create collective memories and influence our common history. With my projects I aim to expose how popular mediated images construct us as subjects; using film, video, text, drawing, photography and installations in a critical practice. My work also involve projects in public space, the project Not Worth It; making false TV-ads interfering with Norwegian public and commercial TV-channels in a media attack pre-christmas 2007. I am currently investigating aesthetic and narrative strategies in 1920s propaganda films in light of contemporary screen culture.

Eliassen holds an MFA in experimental filmmaking from San Francisco Art Institute and was a studio fellow at The Whitney Museum’s Independent Study Program in 2011. Her films Still Birds and A Blank Slate have played extensively at international film festivals, amongst them Venice Film Festival, International Film Festival Rotterdam and Sundance.
